Folks lining up!

In the Central Texas baked goods hierarchy, Round Rock has the yellow doughnut. And San Marcos has the Manske Roll. Legend has it that LBJ, who graduated from college here in 1930 when Texas State was Southwest Texas State Teachers College, had Manske Rolls shipped to the White House. The City Council here has proclaimed the third week in November Manske Roll Week, an annual event with a Manske Roll-eating contest. Gil’s Broiler is known as the oldest restaurant in San Marcos, so college students here have been pounding down Manske Rolls for over 70 years.
